There are spiritual works for survival.
And there are spiritual works for the part of you that is ready for life to become sweeter.
Ezili Freda Dahomey is one of the great feminine lwa of the Rada nation in Haitian Vodou. She is associated with love, beauty, refinement, elegance, desire, prosperity, luxury, sweetness, and matters of the heart.
But Freda is not simply about romance or beautiful things.
There is longing in her mysteries.
There is the heart that knows what it desires, the disappointment of desires left unfulfilled, and the tears that come when love, tenderness, beauty, and the life we imagined do not arrive as we hoped.
This is part of what makes her mysteries so profound.
On September 15, we honor Ezili Freda and bring our petitions before her.
This work may be petitioned for:
• Love & Romance — attracting loving attention, affection, tenderness, courtship, and sweetness in matters of the heart
• Beauty & Magnetism — personal radiance, attraction, glamour, confidence, and being favorably received
• Prosperity & Favor — increased favor, generosity, financial blessing, comfort, and opportunities that improve your quality of life
• Luxury & Elevation — calling yourself into greater refinement, abundance, beautiful surroundings, and a higher standard for what you accept
• Healing Matters of the Heart — bringing grief, disappointment, betrayal, rejection, loneliness, or emotional pain into a spiritual space of sweetness and restoration
• Desire — naming what you genuinely want instead of continually reducing your desires to what feels practical, available, or easy to receive
This is not a ceremony about pretending everything is fine.
Sometimes the heart wants what it wants.
Sometimes it has been disappointed.
Sometimes you have spent so much time surviving that you have forgotten you are also allowed to desire beauty, tenderness, pleasure, prosperity, affection, ease, and sweetness.
Freda's mysteries give us room to acknowledge both:
the sweetness we desire and the sorrow of where sweetness has been denied.
HOW THE PETITION CEREMONY WORKS
This ceremony is performed on your behalf.
When you enter, submit your name and petition for the matter you are bringing before Ezili Freda.
On September 15, she will be honored and served according to the manner in which I work with her. Your petition will be placed before her and presented as part of the ceremony.
What I ask from you is simple:
Know what you want.
Not what you think you should want.
Not what you have convinced yourself is "good enough."
What does your heart actually desire?
Where are you asking for more sweetness?
Where are you ready to be treated better?
Where have you accepted scarcity when what you desire is abundance?
Where has disappointment made you afraid to desire anything at all?
Petitions close September 14 at midnight.
On September 15, we set the table.
We honor Ezili Freda.
And we place before her the desires, wounds, hopes, and petitions of those asking for more sweetness in this life.
Love. Beauty. Favor. Prosperity. Desire. Healing. Sweetness.
There is nothing shameful about wanting more than survival.
