When the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest, the Gede come home.
For two days each year, the family of the dead fills the world of the living, led by Baron Samedi, lord of the cemetery, and Maman Brigitte, guardian of the graves. They come laughing, truth-telling, and hungry, and they come with power. No grave is dug without the Baron's word. No injustice goes unanswered in Maman Brigitte's court. And no child of the Gede is taken before their time.
This is the Cemetery Court. We open the gates, set the table, and bring our petitions before the rulers of the dead.
💀 THE COURT
🎩 Baron Samedi, Lord of the Cemetery
Master of the crossroads between life and death, he decides who crosses over and who stays. We come to him for protection, longevity, the healing of what others called hopeless, and the end of what must be laid to rest.
⚖️ Maman Brigitte, Guardian of the Graves
Fierce, protective, and uncompromising, she is the justice of the cemetery. We come to her to bring hidden wrongs to light, to turn back harm sent our way, and to have our cause heard in her court.
🕯️ The Gede, the Family of the Dead
Tricksters, healers, and truth-tellers who speak what no one else will say. We come to them for truth, healing, protection of children, and the return of life force to what has gone still.

🌪️ WHY THIS RITUAL WORKS
The Gede walk among the living on these two days as on no others. And the heavens this year open the doorway to the dead wider than usual:
👑 Jupiter enters Magha, the star of the ancestors. On October 31, Jupiter crosses from Cancer into Leo and lands in Magha, the nakshatra ruled by the Pitris, the ancestral fathers. It crosses the knot between water and fire, one of the zodiac's great thresholds of death and rebirth.
🐍 Jupiter joins Ketu in Magha. Ketu, the headless one, rules the past, liberation, and all that lies beyond the body. With the great benefic beside him in the ancestors' own star, the dead are honored and heard.
⚖️ The scales are full. The Sun, Venus, and Mercury gather in Libra, the sign of the scales. Maman Brigitte's court is in session.
🗝️ Mercury and Venus are retrograde. Old matters, hidden truths, and unfinished business return to be settled. The Gede speak the truth, and the sky is ready to hear it.
🌘 The Moon is waning. This is the season for release, burial, and descent into the underworld.
🔥 On November 2, the Moon joins Mars in Ashlesha, the serpent's star, home of venom and medicine alike. Fire meets water on All Souls' Day, the very day the Gede are fed.
🕯️ THE TWO DAYS
Day One, Sunday, November 1: Opening the Gates
We open the cemetery gates and call Baron Samedi and Maman Brigitte to their court. Petitions for protection, justice, and longevity are laid before them.
Day Two, Monday, November 2: Feeding the Dead
We set the table for the Gede and lift the names of the beloved dead. Healing is called in, truth is spoken, and what has died in our lives is laid to rest for good.
